Liberty Under Siege

by Dave Batcheller, written in 2008.

As we approach the end of another year it is a good time to reflect upon the many blessings that we have here in America. We should also, however, take time to remember the ongoing siege taking place against our liberties. This struggle for the heart and soul of our nation has resulted in the gradual, yet often unnoticed undermining of the foundational principles that made America great. The erosion of morality, failure to adhere to the U.S. Constitution, and the aberrations of our judicial system continue to threaten our republic as never before.

Considering our Losses

Nearly 150 years ago, our republic began a downhill slide when the federal government became more centralized after the devastation of the American Civil War. This slide continued in the first half of the twentieth century with the introduction of the Federal Reserve, personal income taxation, and a slew of socialistic government welfare programs. Our money was removed from the gold standard and our economy is edging toward the brink of disaster. Since World War II, our nation has engaged in numerous unconstitutional wars while seeking to police the world and impose what is called “democracy” upon other countries.

Meanwhile at home, in recent years we have witnessed a so-called separation of church and state and bans on prayer, Bible reading and the Ten Commandments. All this has taken place while divorce, legalized abortion and sexual deviation have all become rampant. Assaults on marriage, the family, property rights, gun ownership, Christian values and a wave of illegal immigration all threaten to transform our nation into something our founding fathers would not recognize.

The force driving this insane government activity is a godless quest for control and globalism by a very small group of elite, powerful leaders. The Constitution, personal rights and liberty are but speed bumps in the road for these power-hungry, greedy, and often corrupt tyrants. All three branches of our insatiable government have gone out of control, having completely abandoned the Constitution and their rightful responsibilities.

On the Horizon

Looming on the horizon for Americans is greater taxation, more regulations and invasion of your privacy at every turn. Dissent will become less tolerated and eventually squelched. Your identity, personal effects, privacy, spending and driving habits, and even your opinions will all be monitored by the government.

At this point you may think I went off the deep end. I can assure you that policy or legislation has already been passed that will pave the way for all this and more. The Real ID Act is due to be implemented in 2009, putting your identity into a federal identification card. So-called “Anti-Hate” legislation has already passed and will be used more extensively in the future. Renewed and added provisions of the Patriot Act, in addition to many “Executive Orders” by the president, nullify many of our civil liberties; some just waiting to be fully implemented. Under NAFTA and the Security and Prosperity Partnership agreement of 2005, forces behind the scenes are already collaborating to bring about a complete North American Union similar to the one in Europe. Our country will soon feel the effects of questionable foreign and trade policies, as well as the rapid, uncontrolled increase of illegal immigrants here at home.

Just a few weeks ago, I was appalled to learn of the government’s illegal raid and seizure of private gold and silver coins at the headquarters of Liberty Dollar, an organization determined to restore our nation’s currency to a gold and silver standard. This caused me to reminisce about FDR’s seizure of all the gold in America, the murders at Ruby Ridge, the siege at Waco, the deception surrounding 9/11 and many other government exploits over the years. As Americans bend under the weight of taxation and government corruption, we must not allow ourselves to remain passive or apathetic in the face of tyranny.

Predicted by our Founding Fathers

There are two primary causes for the siege that has been raging here in America for several generations. The first is rooted in the nature of man and human government. The ideals of American government were originally based upon the strong Judeo-Christian belief that man is inherently bent towards evil and that we must therefore have clear standards of right and wrong in our society. Consider these remarks by some well-known early American patriots:

We have staked the whole future of American civilization not on the power of government, far from it. We have staked the whole of all our political institutions upon the capacity of mankind for self-government, upon the capacity of each and all of us to govern ourselves, to control ourselves, to sustain ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God. The future and success of America is not in this Constitution, but in the laws of God upon which this Constitution is founded.
– James Madison

Neither the wisest constitution nor the wisest laws will secure the liberty and happiness of a people whose manners are universally corrupt. – Samuel Adams

The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people; it is an instrument for the people to restrain the government – lest it come to dominate our lives and interests. – Patrick Henry

Man will ultimately be governed by God or by tyrants. – Benjamin Franklin

The solution to this problem is for American citizens to once again assume their personal responsibility to hold themselves and the government in check Before we point the finger at the government we must first look at ourselves and realize that most of us have abdicated our responsibility as citizens and patriots. We must first govern ourselves!

The second cause of this siege is the resulting nature of human government. If left unrestrained, over time, human governments tend to not only deteriorate but also seize more and more control. President Thomas Jefferson knew this fact all too well, when he said “The natural progress of things is for liberty to yield and government to gain ground.”

This is the Year of Action for All Patriots

America was built upon the understanding that “We the People” are the ones in charge. Many of our ancestors came to America in search of freedom and opportunity. We stood up to the British and threw off the shackles of abuse and tyranny. We created the government, yet it now influences or controls nearly every facet of our lives. Truly it has become a huge, ugly monster that once again needs to be challenged and defeated.

All true patriots must now realize that we are in a life or death struggle for our constitutional republic. The time for waiting, watching and inactivity is over! We must now work together for the common cause of defending and saving our nation from a future controlled by politicians, big corporations, globalists and world bankers. We must fight and win at all levels – by educating the people, in the courts, at the ballot box, and grassroots – with our families, friends and neighbors. We must pursue every channel and means necessary to restore the vision and greatness of America.
